The "AI-Driven Open Science: A Curriculum for Research and Innovation (AIOS)" European project is a new initiative under the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, aiming at strengthening Open Science through the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It is currently undergoing by the DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), Greek partner, and emphasizes on supporting higher education institutions, researchers, educators and innovation organisations in adopting more transparent, collaborative and accessible research practice.

Specifically, the AIOS key objectives include the development of a framework and a training programme targeting the new role of the Open Science Officer (OSO), putting emphasis on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence. This is accompanied by the creation of Open Educational Resources (OERs) and digital material for strengthening Open Science and Artificial Intelligence skills. It is also linked to the development of self-assessment tools and personalized learning pathways. In addition, AIOS incorporates the implementation of pilot training and certification activities in real academic and professional environments, and emphasizes on empowering cooperation among universities, research organisations, businesses and policy-making bodies.

DAISSy-HOU is strongly involved in all activities of the AIOS project, playing an important role in developing related digital tools and the educational ecosystem. Drawing on its long-standing experience in open distance education and in implementing European projects with success, the Research Group contributes to the creation of innovative educational resources and the implementation of piloting activities. Furthermore, DAISSy-HOU is thoroughly involved in evaluating the project results and disseminating them - through the intense networking it maintains at national, European and international level - safeguarding their long-term sustainability.

AIOS is a three-year project (01.03.2026–28.02.2029), funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union and the National Coordination Unit of the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). It is coordinated by the University of Thessaly, and the consortium comprises five (5) partners from four (4) European countries (Greece, Italy, Norway and Ukraine). DAISSy-HOU, Greek partner, will work towards fulfilling the ultimate aim of AIOS, namely the creation of a modern European research and education ecosystem, where Artificial Intelligence is used in a responsible and ethical way, so as to strengthening cooperation, innovation and open dissemination of knowledge.
