The “Boosting Education Quality and Entrepreneurial Mindsets for Natural Sciences in Ukraine - BOOSTSCIENCE” European project kicked-off on 15-16 January 2026, in Athens, Greece, marking the beginning of an ambitious three-year collaboration. Project partners from Greece, Spain and Ukraine iterated their commitment to the BOOSTSCIENCE implementation, shared their understanding of the project’s vision and confirmed their dedication to delivering high-quality and impactful results.
More precisely, BOOSTSCIENCE brings together twelve (12) partners from three (3) European countries. The project is coordinated by the Hellenic Open University (HOU), Greece, through the involvement of the Laboratory of Chemistry, the Laboratory of Biology, and the Dynamic Ambient Intelligent Sociotechnical Systems (DAISSy) Research Group, under the scientific coordination of Professor of Chemistry Kyriakos Bourikas. HOU is supported by V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (Ukraine), Universitat Jaume I de Castellón (Spain), University of Ioannina (Greece), Leanspots (Spain), Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University (Ukraine), Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University (Ukraine), Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (Ukraine), Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University (Ukraine), State Scientific Institution “Institute for Single Crystals” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Ukraine), FK Biotek Ltd. (Ukraine), and Research and Production Enterprise Ukrorgsyntez (Ukraine).
The main goal of BOOSTSCIENCE is to support the modernization of Ukrainian Higher Education Institutions through the development of an innovative distance-learning module for master-level students in Biology and Chemistry. This module will combine virtual laboratory exercises with research-based, work-based, problem-based, and entrepreneurial learning activities, enabling students to acquire advanced and market-relevant skills. In this way, BOOSTSCIENCE will address the gap between higher education and labour market needs, while strengthening students’ employability and entrepreneurial mindset.
By aiming to upskill more than 200 Ukrainian students, the project is expected to generate lasting impact for the academic, research, entrepreneurial, and wider stakeholder communities in both Ukraine and Europe.
The positive and constructive spirit of the kick-off meeting set the tone for the collaboration ahead, so as to ensure the successful implementation of the BOOSTSCIENCE project as well as its long-term impact, at both national and European level.
BOOSTSCIENCE is a three-year project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme (Capacity Building in Higher Education) of the European Union.
