The Linguacuisine ‘LinguaChef’ Prize

The LinguaChef Prize will be awarded to the person who uploads the best language learning recipe using the Linguacuisine recipe author software during the period 14 June to 31 August 2019. The prize consists of a payment of £200 plus a LinguaChef Gold Certificate. There are 2 runner-up prizes with £50 each plus a LinguaChef Silver Certificate. All will feature on the front page of all Linguacuisine media and the recipes will be promoted around the world on the website.

The language learning recipe can involve learning any language and any recipe. There is no cost to making an entry.

Watch the video tutorial on how to create your own language learning recipe on https://linguacuisine.com/tutorials/
Read the advice on http://linguacuisine.com:8000/ by pressing the ? icon on the main page.
For an example of a good language learning recipe, try Italian Involtini.
You need a googlemail account to use the recipe author software.
Gather your ingredients and cooking equipment as well as your recording equipment, cook the meal and record your recipe.
Enter your video and audio files, photos and text using the recipe author software to form a complete recipe.
If you wish, you can add extra media and text under the titles ‘full length recipe’, ‘culture and history’, ‘language’ and ‘cuisine’ to provide additional learning materials in relation to your recipe.
Tick ‘publish’ on the main page when the recipe is finished.
When you see your recipe appear on the recipe player http://linguacuisine.com:7000/ this means that you have successfully uploaded your recipe. It may take a day to upload onto the server.
Then email us on linguacuisine@gmail.com to say you wish to enter the 2019 LinguaChef contest. Give us a) your name b) the name and language of your recipe c) your preferred email address for contact.

Entries will be judged during September 2019 and the winner and runner-up announced on 30 September 2019.

The criteria for evaluating the language learning recipes will be:

How easy is the recipe for learners of the language to follow and to create the dish?
To what extent does the recipe help users learn aspects of the language, culture and cuisine?
What is the quality of the video and audio files, photos and text in relation to learning this language, culture and cuisine?

Entry to the competition is open to all and is free. However, staff of Newcastle University, Action Foundation and the Workers Educational Association may not enter or contribute to any entries.

Promotion of “Tackling multiple discrimination in Greece” project at the “LINGUA CUISINE” project awareness event

Driven by enthusiasm was the promotional event of project LINGUA CUISINE that was organized on 20 Oct 2018, in Athens by the DAISSy (Digital Ambient Intelligence Sociotechnical Systems) Research Group of Hellenic Open University. The project promotes equality of access and participation in learning, with emphasis on the development of digital and linguistic skills. By using a combined educational methodology that promotes foreign language learning, digital literacy and intercultural communication through gastronomy, it helps social inclusion and prevents exclusion of people without or with few digital skills, while enhancing the creation of online digital communities with a common culinary interest. An online app for Android and iPhone has been developed as part of the project, which supports authoring and posting digital cooking recipes in six official EU languages. At the end of training, participants received a digital competence certificate based on the European standard DigComp 2.1. LINGUA CUISINE project achieved widespread adoption of this learning methodology with a focus on social inclusion of migrants and that is why project perfectly matches with the concept of project “Tackling multiple discrimination in Greece: Delivering equality by active exploration and enabling policy interventions” (JUST / 2015 / RDIS / AG / DISC / 9507).

The event was attended by almost sixty participants from all levels of education and other sectors of activities (local authorities, civil society, etc.) and it provided a favorable environment for the innovative use of digital technology in the learning process and the development of digital skills through creative activities that unite people and favor anti-discrimination behaviors.

The project was promoted with a specially created short video showcasing all DAISSy projects along with a respective intervention delivered by Achilles KAMEAS, Project Scientific Coordinator and Head of DAISSy Research Group. All participants were informed about the project contents and objectives and were handed the project dissemination material. The event provided a favorable environment for the announcement of the upcoming awareness WEMIN activities i.e. “A chocolate unites us!” initiative (1.11.2018, at city centre of Athens) and the launch of the short policy guide for stakeholders involved in the management of migrants integration and social inclusion (9.11.2018, at the premises of HOU). These two WEMIN awareness events will be organized by Hellenic Open University – DAISSy Research Group (Coordinator) and “Olympic Training & Consulting Ltd (partner) for promoting the existing project results and strengthening their exploitation. The presentation of WEMIN triggered questions and attracted further interest of people in the project actions and future implementation.

Workshop on the acquisition of digital and linguistic skills through cooking

The Linguacuisine project promotes equality of access and participation in learning, with emphasis on the development of digital and linguistic skills. By using a combined educational methodology that promotes foreign language learning, digital literacy and intercultural communication through gastronomy, it helps social inclusion and prevents the exclusion, in particular, of people without or with few digital skills, while enhancing the creation of online digital communities with a common culinary interest. An online app for Android and iPhone has been developed as part of the project, which supports authoring and posting digital cooking recipes and, at the same time, learning six official EU languages. Participants in education via the online app receive a digital competence certificate based on the European standard DigComp 2.1.

The aim of the Workshop is to disseminate the results of the project to the general public and to invite a discussion on the innovative use of digital technology in the learning process and the development of digital skills through creative activities.
