The DAISSy Research Group of the Hellenic Open University (HOU) launches the implementation of the pilot phase of the short courses of the “SMARCO - Blueprint for SMARt COmmunities’ Skills Development in Europe“ European project, currently undergoing by DAISSy-HOU as the Greek partner. This training cycle has been developed within the framework of SMARCO and currently is being piloted across six European countries, with DAISSy–HOU as the National Coordinator of the pilot in Greece. In parallel with the national pilot educational program, a multinational piloting activity is taking place, fostering cross-border collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants.
More precisely, the educational program of the SMARCO project, targets professionals involved in the design, development, and procurement of smart and resilient community solutions, public servants and students, focusing on two key professional profiles, forming the future of smart communities, namely:
- Smart Community Resilience Engineer
- Smart Community Resilient-solutions Procurer/Planner
As European cities evolve towards the digital and green transition, the demand for specialized skills is rapidly increasing. Addressing this need requires more than technological solutions. It requires a workforce equipped with the appropriate competencies to design, implement, and manage resilient systems.
The SMARCO pilot directly responds to this challenge by offering targeted, practice-oriented training that bridges the gap between emerging technological capabilities and real-world application. Through this educational initiative, participants gain access to structured learning pathways that support the development of skills essential for building future-ready, resilient communities.
SMARCO is a four-year project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. It is implemented by a consortium of twenty-one (21) partners from twelve (12) EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Norway, the Netherlands, Hungary and Romania), with DAISSy–HOU as the Greek partner. The Research Group participates in all SMARCO deliverables, being responsible for the design of the training programme, as well as for the development of both the educational content of the Higher Education curricula and the e-learning platforms.
